It was 1959 when the U.S. officially made Hawaii the 50th state, referring to it as the Aloha state. Before it was admitted as a state it was named the Sandwich Islands by the British Captain James Cook who was the first European to discover the islands. Even though there are hundreds of small islands in Hawaii the main part of the state is made up of the main island and seven others. The other islands are Oahu, Molokai, Nihau, Kauai, La-nai, Kahoolawe, and Maui. Honolulu is the largest city of the state and also the capital.

Tourism is one of largest industries in the states economy with visitors arriving year round from all parts of the world. Hawaii is known for its beautiful pacific beaches and amazing surf, but there are many other activities to enjoy on your visit. There are many great National Parks to visit throughout the islands such as the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the main island. On the island of Honaunau, you can find the Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park to visit for the day. There are some beautiful golf courses that many people enjoy playing a few rounds on while on their vacation. Another great site to visit is the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor to see an important part of American history.

The climate and temperature of Hawaii is typically beautiful all year round, but there are seasons when it rains more often. This is something you should take into account when planning your vacation and the travel package you choose.
