How to Play the Game of Sudoku

Are you aware of how a Rubik’s cube works? Have you ever played with a Rubik’s cube? Do you know anyone who has never heard of one? If you have mastered the Rubik’s cube and are looking for a new challenge you need to look into playing sudoku. This is a very popular game that requires a lot of patience and very thoughtful moves.

If you want to try and play sudoku you can find it almost anywhere, from the internet to newspapers to magazines. The basic layout of a sudoku puzzle grid is usually a 9x9 grid that contains nine 3x3 smaller grids.

The main point of this popular numbers game is to place the numbers one through nine into each of the grids that are provided in the puzzle. In the game of Sudoku you do not have to do any adding of the numbers at all. Though sudoku is definitely a game of numbers there is no need to be a math genius.

There are three rules in Sudoku that need to be strictly adhered to. They are as follows:

1. Of the numbers one through nine they should only appear once in each column

2. Of the numbers one through nine they should appear once in each row.

3. Each number should appear once in each 3x3 grid.

The rules of the game need to be followed strictly to be positive that that the number series one through nine appears in the series just once. Sticking to these rules makes sure that the challenge of the game is significantly increased.

There are several different levels of complexity involved in the game of sudoku. The total of the numbers that are provided in the gaming grid often differs. Many enthusiasts of the game think it would be much easier if there where more numbers available on the first level of the game. This really would have no effect though as the placement of the numbers given has a huge effect on how difficult the puzzle is to solve.

So how do you get started playing this puzzle game?

As stated above you need to stick to the three main rules of sudoku when you are playing. Once that is clear you are ready to begin trying to solve the puzzle. Here are some of the steps you need to keep in mind while playing.

A sudoku puzzle can be solved with common sense players do not need to make random guesses. When you begin to try and solve the puzzle you should first of all try thinking carefully and seeking out any clues that you can find. The majority of people that play sudoku begin playing by seeking out numbers that appear in the first puzzle. For instance while keeping in mind that the numbers one through nine are only to appear once in each row and column of each box in the grid look for how many 5’s that are in the puzzle. After going through the puzzle you should be able to quickly determine the placement of each five located in the puzzle and thus be able to figure out where the missing number five should be placed. If you are able to successfully do this you will increase your chances of solving the sudoku puzzle correctly.

By following the process of elimination you are should to be positive that you are getting the correct placement of the numbers one through nine in the puzzle grid. Should you find that you end up with a couple of extra numbers the process of elimination is sure to help you decide where those two numbers should go. You should simply go through all the rows and columns to make sure that you have all the numbers correctly placed. Once you believe you have done this it should be easy to figure out where any missing should be placed.

The steps above will help players solve the most simple versions of Sudoku. Players that prefer to take on the more difficult levels of sudoku need to be able to see all the potential possibilities of the game without using the process of elimination. Since there are times while playing this popular number puzzle game that there is no possible way to get rid of a possibility a player needs to be able to decide whether or not that they have placed all the numbers into the puzzle correctly.

It can seem to many that play this game that you are playing a never ending game. Sudoku is most definitely a game of strategic thinking and by taking the steps mentioned here and playing a lot of practice games you are sure to become an expert player in no time at all.
